Man Utd Celebrates as Premier League Star Ready to Join Despite Interest from Big Clubs

Man Utd celebrates as a Premier League star is ready to join despite major clubs competing for his signature.

On 3 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips revealed the latest update on Manchester United's pursuit of Lewis Hall, the primary left-back target from Newcastle United in the English Premier League this summer.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick wants Lewis Hall as a long-term first-choice left-back to replace Luke Shaw, whose contract has only one year remaining. However, Chelsea, under new manager Xabi Alonso, also wants to bring the 21-year-old back to Stamford Bridge after his move to Newcastle in 2023.

Chelsea also seeks a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who transferred to Real Madrid. Recently, Simon Phillips shared positive news for Man Utd: "Alonso is trying to sign Lewis Hall, but the player has never shown any interest in moving to Chelsea."

"There are limits to how much you can persuade someone. I don't know if he will end up at United, but it seems the situation is heading that way."

Currently, Lewis Hall is one of the Premier League's top left-backs and helped Newcastle win the 2024-25 Carabao Cup. He appeared in 46 games across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Unfortunately, Thomas Tuchel did not call him up for the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Lewis Hall is awaiting clarity on his future and role at Newcastle, which is preparing to appoint German Matthias Jaissle as the new head coach, succeeding Eddie Howe who has stepped down.
