Liverpool is stepping up efforts to sign two key players, aiming to fully replace "Salah".
On 5 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Fabrice Hawkins, a trusted journalist from French sports media RMC Sport, reported that Premier League giant Liverpool is moving full throttle to secure a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has already left the team.
Fabrice Hawkins revealed that Liverpool has launched their pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye, an 18-year-old Senegalese national team winger for the 2026 World Cup squad, and plans to negotiate soon with Paris Saint-Germain, the French Ligue 1 powerhouse.
PSG is prepared to let Ibrahim Mbaye go after he expressed a desire to transfer in this summer's window, but Liverpool must compete with Bayer Leverkusen, which has also shown interest.
However, Fabrice Hawkins noted that Ibrahim Mbaye is interested in joining Liverpool, and the "Reds" have already contacted the renowned agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the potential transfer.
Hawkins also mentioned that Liverpool aims to acquire both Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola, the French national team winger also part of PSG's 2026 World Cup squad, with talks underway regarding Barcola’s transfer fee, reportedly set as high as £140 million.
Liverpool is keen to strengthen their right-wing forward position seriously after losing star Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, who is set to move soon to Trabzonspor, a top Turkish league club. This pursuit continues despite having signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna and retaining Federico Chiesa in the squad.
