Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, admitted his team played below standard after losing 1-3 to Real Betis in a preseason friendly in Ireland, marking Arsenal's first defeat in the preseason period.
All four goals came in the first half. Real Betis took a 2-0 lead before Arsenal narrowed the gap to 1-2, but ultimately Real Betis scored a third goal, handing Arsenal the defeat.
Arteta said, "Of course, I am disappointed with the result because we came here to win. We had good moments in the first half and should have scored from two chances before conceding a goal."
"I am very disappointed with how we conceded the first goal and then allowed two more. It's true their finishing quality was excellent, but to win football matches you have to compete at a different level, especially in key areas of the pitch. That is the lesson we learned today."
