Live Score: Arsenal Lose at Home to Dortmund, Miss Emirates Cup Title but Win on Penalties

Live score: Arsenal lost at home to Dortmund, missing out on the Emirates Cup title but still winning in the penalty shootout.

On 9 Aug 2026 GMT+7, in the 2026 Emirates Cup preseason friendly—the 15th edition—Arsenal, the English Premier League champions, hosted Borussia Dortmund, the German Bundesliga runners-up, at Emirates Stadium.

In the first half, Dortmund shocked by taking a 2-0 lead over Arsenal, with goals from Samuele Inazio in the 7th minute and new winger Konstantinos Karetsas in the 29th minute.

In the second half, Arsenal pulled one back to 1-2 through Ethan Wanery, returning from loan at Olympique Marseille, in the 54th minute, but Dortmund extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal by Johan Gadu in the 58th minute.

Arsenal then narrowed the gap to 2-3 via a penalty by Victor Jekeres in the 69th minute, but could not equalize before the match ended with that score.

Arsenal missed out on the 2026 Emirates Cup title after winning it for four consecutive years, marking their second straight preseason friendly loss following a 1-3 defeat to Real Betis in the previous game.

However, Arsenal redeemed themselves in the post-match penalty shootout by scoring all five attempts. New goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who recently joined on a free transfer after his contract with Leeds United ended, saved Mathis Albert’s penalty, securing a 5-4 shootout win for the Gunners.
