Arne Slot, currently unemployed after Liverpool dismissed him in May, had negotiated to become head coach of his home country's national team but ultimately withdrew from consideration himself.
Although reports suggested Slot declined due to salary and contract length issues, the 47-year-old coach issued a statement clarifying the real reasons.
The former Reds coach explained to Voetbal International, a Dutch media outlet, "In recent weeks, especially the past few days, there have been many reports about the vacant Netherlands national team position."
"Reports claim I withdrew after prolonged negotiations, including salary and contract length matters. Those assumptions are untrue because we never reached detailed contract negotiations."
"At this stage of my career, I prefer to train daily alongside my players, which is not possible in the same way with a national team role. That is why I chose not to continue discussions or enter contract detail negotiations."
"It is a great honor to someday serve as head coach of the national team, but now is not the right time for me."
