Latest Update on Leicester City After Reports of King Power Ready to Sell the Club

Latest update on Leicester City after reports that King Power is ready to sell the team, setting a total price at £222 million.

On 12 August 2026, the possibility of Leicester City being sold seemed to emerge suddenly last month after the Financial Times reported that the Thai owners, the King Power Group, were considering selling the team. Meanwhile, Sky Sports stated that an unnamed company from the Middle East had shown interest in acquiring the club.

To date, no further details have been released regarding these rumors. However, a recent report from The Athletic by Rob Tanner revealed more information about the club's situation.

Tanner reported that documents detailing the sale of Leicester City and all its assets are currently being prepared to present to potential investor groups. These documents are being produced by Citigroup, a global investment bank.

The assets listed include the Seagrave training center, King Power Stadium, the women's team, the club’s academy, and OH Leuven, a sister club competing in Belgium's top league.

Besides asset details, The Athletic learned that the owners set a price for all assets at £222 million. However, after Leicester City was relegated to League One, this valuation appears to have dropped to about £148 million.

Overall, as of 2025, the club's real estate assets are valued at approximately £204 million, with £121 million attributed to the club’s training center.

The past several years have been challenging for Leicester City, with the club recording significant accumulated losses annually. Simultaneously, the club’s limited investment in this summer’s transfer market may relate to these financial issues, as Leicester did not show as much ambition in player acquisitions as many had expected.

Previously, the club focused mainly on selling players such as Jeremy Monga, Bilal El Khannouss, and Abdul Fatawu. Some fans view these sales as part of an asset reduction strategy ahead of an ownership change.

So, what impact does this have on Leicester?

For many fans, a change in ownership is widely welcomed.

The era under King Power appears to have come to an end, after the club experienced both its most successful and most difficult periods in history.

If the club fails to secure promotion back to the Championship this season, the resulting consequences could cause even greater damage to the club.
