Iraola Praises Three Liverpool Players After Narrow Win Over Como

Iraola praises three Liverpool players after a narrow win over Como.

Thumbs up! "Iraola" is pleased with Liverpool's performance in their win over Como, singling out Doku, Frimpong, and Araújo for special praise.

Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's manager, expressed great satisfaction with his team's performance after their 2-0 home victory over Como in the final pre-season friendly before the 2026-27 season, highlighting Jérémy Doku, Jeremie Frimpong, and Ronald Araújo in particular.

Iraola said, "I think this is the feeling we want—finishing a game without conceding and securing the win. Although the first half was better than the second, we maintained discipline and composure, managing to close out the game with a 2-0 scoreline. I believe this is the kind of feeling we need before starting the new season."

When asked which players impressed him most, Iraola replied, "Both Doku and Araújo. I think Doku played very well, and Araújo also performed excellently. With two new players making their first appearances, they did very well. Additionally, Jeremie Frimpong played strongly as right-back, completing 90 minutes, contributing in attack while also defending effectively. So, we showed good defensive form."

"Regarding the players' physical condition, I think we’re better than last week, but I hope we will be even better next week. That’s normal. Usually, the first half is better than the second. Today, several players played 80 to 90 minutes without cramps or serious injuries. We need to build our fitness and mental strength and maintain our commitment going forward."

About the team's adaptation to his playing style, Iraola said, "I think everyone understands. I’m very happy with the players’ attitude. They have trained very well. I’ve asked them to do things slightly differently, especially when we don’t have the ball, and I think they are trying to understand. Of course, we are not perfect yet and have areas to improve, but I’m very pleased with their attitude, willingness to work together, and we will get there."
