Man City saddened as star player officially joins new team
Barcelona, the giant club in Spain's La Liga, has announced the signing of Spanish international midfielder Rodri from Manchester City's "Sky Blues" for a transfer fee of 76.5 million euros. He has signed a four-year contract until 2030.
Barcelona worked hard on this deal, submitting three bids before finally persuading Manchester City to release 30-year-old Rodri to join the team.
Rodri said, “I am very happy to be here. The past few days have been quite intense, but I am glad everything has been settled. Playing for Barcelona has always been my dream.”
“I can’t wait to be with my teammates. I already know many of them from the national team. Now it’s time to work hard and give my all.”
Additionally, Rodri stated his goal with Barcelona is “to win the UEFA Champions League and other competitions we will enter.”
Rodri may make his debut in Barcelona’s 2026-27 La Liga season opener against Elche on Sunday, 23 August.
