Arteta Praises Arsenal Duo After Rout of Coventry in Premier League Opener

Arteta praises the performances of two Arsenal players after their dominant 3-0 win over Coventry in the Premier League opener.

Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, praised his team's performance, especially Bukayo Saka and Christos Solis, after their 3-0 victory over Coventry City at Emirates Stadium in the opening match of the 2026-27 English Premier League season.

Goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard secured Arsenal an easy 3-0 victory to start their title defense, while newcomers Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, dropped to 20th place at the bottom of the table.

Arteta said, "There are many things to admire. Certainly, the result is excellent, but our game start, control, clarity, understanding, and development during the match were also very impressive. It was great because starting is always difficult. We played against a team that had plenty of preparation time and they are good at what they do. Overall, I am very pleased with today's result."

"There is a connection between the players that I really like. I think Saka played excellently. We had outstanding individual performances, and that's what we need at this level. Players must be decisive, and I think they showed decisiveness today."

"To me, they still look the same! I don't know what is happening inside each player, but what I convey is a hunger and increased energy to keep improving and to get better."

When asked if the players seemed relaxed, Arteta replied, "Relaxed? No, I don't like the word 'relaxed'! They need to have the right level of clarity. They know what to do, they look compatible, and they play with commitment, which I really like."

Regarding the comparison between Christos Solis and Alexis Sanchez, he said, "I like that a player who has been with us only a few weeks shows boundless energy every time he gets the ball, and I think he deserves it. I think his performances in the past few games have been excellent. What he delivers as a player is pushing forward, playing with sharpness, and wanting to create chances. He moves in various ways to make decisions and do the right things even in very tight spaces. I am really impressed with him."

On whether the atmosphere in the stadium has changed, Arteta said, "Let's see what happens when the score is 0-0 or if we lose! But I think we have learned from the past what truly helps the team, and this kind of atmosphere in the stadium is a pleasure to see."
