Alonso Take Note: Carragher Points Out Why Chelsea Cant Win Premier League After Beating Fulham

Alonso take note: "Carragher" points out why Chelsea cannot win the Premier League after their victory over Fulham.

On 25 August 2026 GMT+7, Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and outspoken football analyst for Sky Sports, gave a fiery post-match comment after the English Premier League opening game of the 2026-27 season last night.

Although Chelsea secured a 3-2 away win over Fulham to claim their first three points of the 2026-27 Premier League season under new coach Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher decisively stated that the "Blues" will never win the Premier League if Robert Sanchez remains their goalkeeper.

In this match, Robert Sanchez was involved in both goals conceded by Chelsea. For the first goal, he failed to fully cover the near post, allowing Josh King to squeeze the ball in. The second goal was again due to Sanchez, who parried a shot straight at him but spilled the ball to Gonzalo Garcia, who then headed it in on the rebound.

Jamie Carragher warned Xabi Alonso about Robert Sanchez if Chelsea still aim to contend for the 2026-27 Premier League title: "We’re not saying anything different from what we’ve said over the past three seasons. Chelsea cannot win the league if Sanchez is guarding the goal. It’s impossible; it just won’t happen."

"Think about the teams that have won the league. All champions in the past three seasons have made goalkeeper changes. Pep brought in Ederson, Liverpool signed Alisson, and Arsenal surely wouldn’t have won the league if Ramsdale had kept goal instead of Raya. It’s simply not possible."

"Today, Sanchez was the cause of both goals Chelsea conceded against Fulham, which is a worrying issue. We’ve seen the same kind of mistakes from him last season, and I still don’t see enough development or composure in his play."

"If Chelsea want to seriously compete for success this season, I think they need to consider bringing in a new goalkeeper."

"The transfer window is still open, so Chelsea have time to address this. The goalkeeper position cannot be allowed to make repeated errors. The team needs someone reliable who can save points, not someone who causes the team to lose points."
