Iraola Opens Up on Liverpool's Latest Form, Linking to a Star Player
Andoni Iraola, manager of the "Reds" Liverpool, spoke about the team's latest performance after their 1-0 away win over his former club Bournemouth in the English Premier League, also addressing the heavy criticism of Florian Wirtz.
Iraola said, “Of course, I am happy with the result. I already knew it was a difficult ground to visit and very hard to secure three points.”
“As we saw in the game, during the first 20 minutes we were not at the level needed for the match. We couldn’t win second balls, and when the opponents play so aggressively, you must match that intensity, which we failed to do. That negatively affected us until the latter part of the first half when we began to play better.”
“In the second half, we played noticeably better. We controlled the game much more and had opportunities to close it out.”
Regarding defense, he said, “Overall as a team, this is our third consecutive clean sheet. Although there are still areas to improve, the defenders have helped provide stability when we needed to hold our ground.”
Speaking about Florian Wirtz, Iraola said, “He started a bit slowly, but after the initial period, Florian helped us improve. I’m very pleased with his second-half performance. He played much better, finding space to receive the ball and turning more effectively.”
“Perhaps we still haven’t found the right moments or rhythm to score, but I think I’m more satisfied with his second-half performance than the first.”
