Carlos Tevez: The Reason Behind His Switch from Manchester United to Manchester City and the Broken Promise

Carlos Tevez has revealed the reasons why he left Manchester United to join Manchester City, highlighting a broken promise.

Carlos Tevez moved from West Ham United, known as the "Hammers," to Manchester United in 2007 on a long-term two-year loan, with his rights held by a third-party company. There was a buyout option once the loan ended after the 2008–09 season.

During those two years, Carlos Tevez played 99 matches across all competitions, scoring 34 goals and providing 14 assists. He helped the team win five trophies: two Premier League titles (2007–08, 2008–09), one UEFA Champions League (2007–08), one FIFA Club World Cup (2008), and one Football League Cup (Carling Cup) in 2008–09.

Despite his excellent performance and popularity due to his hardworking and dedicated style, he ultimately rejected Manchester United's permanent contract offer. He felt he was not receiving the respect and recognition he deserved, especially as his playing time diminished after Sir Alex Ferguson signed Dimitar Berbatov.

This led Carlos Tevez to immediately transfer to Manchester City's "Sky Blues," their city rivals, in July 2009 for around £47 million (approximately 2,113 million baht). This transfer became a major drama, highlighted by the famous "Welcome to Manchester" billboard on the City side.

Carlos Tevez later revealed the behind-the-scenes story of his controversial move from Manchester United to their city rivals Manchester City in 2009, clearly stating that the main reason was Sir Alex Ferguson's broken promise to buy him outright after the first year, contingent on his good performance.

Additionally, when Dimitar Berbatov was signed during preseason, Sir Alex Ferguson assured Tevez not to worry and that the club would still exercise the buyout option on his contract. However, the club refused to pay the agreed fee. Six months later, Ferguson began benching him, which Tevez viewed as a deliberate strategy to reduce his market value. This deeply hurt him, as he felt he had given his all to the team.

Feeling unfairly treated and unrewarded, Carlos Tevez decided to join Manchester City. He openly admitted that his move was essentially an act of "revenge" against Sir Alex Ferguson.
