Arsenal has arrived: "Rice" speaks candidly after an away win against Liverpool to take the lead in the Premier League.
On 2 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Declan Rice, Arsenal's key midfield engine, spoke after the 9th week Premier League 2026-27 match, in which Arsenal secured a 1-0 away victory over Liverpool, one of their major rivals.
This win allowed the "Gunners" to beat Liverpool, the "Reds," at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time in 14 years, raising their points to 24 and overtaking Manchester City (21 points) to become league leaders.
Arsenal also extended their lead over Liverpool to 9 points in the Premier League 2026-27 standings, prompting football experts and media to view them as strong contenders to defend their title this season.
Declan Rice, who assisted Kai Havertz's winning goal, spoke about Arsenal's breakthrough win at Anfield and their title chase: "We haven't won here in 14 years, so this is a very good start for us."
"We could have done better in front of goal, but ultimately, our defense, the way we stood together, and the unity we showed is something I've never seen before."
"I've learned that the league table only becomes truly important around February or March. If by then we’re still close to the top group, we still have a chance. Until that time, we must try to win as many matches as possible."
