The troubles keep coming for Liverpool as they face three fresh setbacks after omitting Mohamed Salah from their UEFA Champions League squad for the away match against Inter Milan.
On 9 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Jürgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, currently 10th in the English Premier League, revealed the latest team status ahead of their sixth and final UEFA Champions League 2025-26 group stage match, visiting Inter Milan, who sit third in Italy's Serie A, with kickoff at 03:00 GMT+7 tonight.
For this game, Liverpool has excluded star forward Mohamed Salah following his scathing public criticism of Klopp and the club over being benched in the last three matches. Additionally, three other first-team players—Federico Chiesa, Cody Gakpo, and Wataru Endo—were also left out of the squad.
Klopp explained the absence of the hardworking forward Federico Chiesa, despite Salah being dropped from the traveling squad to Italy, saying, "He is ill, so you might say the timing is unfortunate, but it's not something you can control."
"We are monitoring his condition closely. If he recovers exceptionally well, beyond what I, the staff, and the medical team expect, he might be able to join us tomorrow. But realistically, I don't expect that to happen."
The Liverpool manager also shared more bad news: "Cody Gakpo was unlucky to get injured in our recent 3-3 draw against Leeds United, and he will be sidelined for several weeks."
Meanwhile, Japanese international midfielder Wataru Endo, who came on as a substitute for Gakpo late in the Leeds match, also missed the latest training session. The Daily Mail reported he has an injury issue, though the length of his absence remains unconfirmed.
As a result, Liverpool will be without seven first-team players: Mohamed Salah, Federico Chiesa, Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo, Jeremy Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, and Stefan Bajcetic.
