Mourinho Reveals What He Said to Real Madrid Players After Leading Benfica to Victory

José Mourinho, Benfica's coach, revealed what he said to Real Madrid players after leading his team to defeat the Los Blancos in the latest UEFA Champions League match.

On 30 Jan 2026 GMT+7, José Mourinho, Benfica's manager, disclosed that he told Dean Haussen, a defender for the "Los Blancos" Real Madrid, that they were lucky not to concede more goals after Benfica defeated Real Madrid 4-2 in the final group stage match of the UEFA Champions League last night.

As a result of this match, Benfica advanced to the playoff round by finishing 24th in the group stage, which was the last qualifying position for the playoffs, alongside Real Madrid, who finished 9th and also had to compete in the playoffs. Recently, Mourinho shared the moment he spoke with Haussen, who was once his player at Roma.

"Dean was my player at Roma. He is a friend of my son; our families know each other well, and I have a good relationship with him. We talked about the game. The kid was disappointed, but I told him they were lucky to lose by only two goals because it could have been worse," Mourinho said.
