"Slot" reveals both bad and good news ahead of Liverpool's match against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
On 10 March 2026, Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool, currently 6th in the English Premier League, gave the latest update ahead of the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 Round of 16 first leg away match against Galatasaray, the leaders of the Turkish league, scheduled for Tuesday night, 10 March.
Liverpool announced a 21-player squad traveling to face Galatasaray, without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, despite footage showing him reporting at the club's training center before departure, as well as Italy international forward Federico Chiesa.
Recently, Arne Slot shared the bad news about both players before Liverpool's rematch against Galatasaray, who previously defeated them 1-0 in the group stage: "Federico Chiesa also did not participate in training. He felt unwell last night, so he did not train with us today and did not travel with us."
"Certainly, Alisson trained as many saw, but unfortunately, he felt unwell toward the end of training, and... how should I put it... everyone saw his condition, and we decided together with Alisson that he was not fit enough to play tomorrow, so traveling made no sense."
However, the Liverpool manager revealed good news that Alisson still has a chance to return in time to guard the goal in the Premier League home match against Tottenham on Sunday, 15 March: "There is definitely a chance because we do not expect it to be serious, but it was severe enough to keep him out of tomorrow's game."
As a result, Liverpool will be missing a total of seven injured players: Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoní, and Stefan Bajcetic.
