Villa Legend Unleashes Fierce Criticism! Calls for 1-Year Ban on Chelsea and Newcastle in UCL Over Premier Leagues Tarnished Reputation

Former Aston Villa striker lashes out! Demands a one-year ban on Chelsea and Newcastle from the UCL after heavy defeats that tarnished the Premier League's reputation!

On 20 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Gabriel Agbonlahor, former Aston Villa striker, strongly condemned and called for Chelsea and Newcastle United to be banned from the UEFA Champions League for one year following their disappointing performances in the round of 16.

This outburst came after four of the six Premier League representatives—Manchester City, Newcastle, Spurs, and Chelsea—were eliminated from the competition.

To recount, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City with a 5-1 aggregate score, Atlético Madrid narrowly beat Spurs 7-5, Chelsea suffered a crushing 8-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, and Newcastle fared no better, being heavily beaten 8-3 by Barcelona despite a strong 1-1 draw in the first leg.

In total, these four Premier League teams lost by an aggregate score of 28-11, drawing harsh criticism for what was described as a “shameful” performance, with Agbonlahor among the critics.

Agbonlahor stated, “Chelsea and Newcastle deserve a one-year ban from the Champions League. They have damaged the Premier League's reputation! It would be better to bring Villa back because we once competed closely with PSG.”
