The first half ended scoreless. In the 63rd minute of the second half, Arsenal nearly took the lead when Martin Zubimendi struck a beautiful long-range shot, but VAR review showed Victor Yokeres was offside.
Then, in stoppage time at 90+1 minutes, Arsenal took the lead 1-0 as Gabriel Martinelli threaded a pass to Kai Havertz, who scored with a left-footed finish.
Neither team scored further in the remaining time, ending the match with Arsenal winning 1-0 away. They gained an advantage ahead of the second leg at Emirates Stadium next Wednesday.
