Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke after his team defeated Liverpool at home in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Luis Enrique, PSG’s coach, admitted he was surprised that Jürgen Klopp, manager of the "Reds" Liverpool, used a five-defender formation in the match where PSG beat Liverpool 2-0 in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg.
At the Parc des Princes stadium, PSG displayed superior performance and scored goals from Desire Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Liverpool fielded five defenders—Ibrahima Konaté, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jérémy Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez—but still could not stop the home side’s attack.
Enrique said, “It was surprising because this is the first time Jürgen Klopp has used a five-defender system this year.”
“It shows they are changing and trying new things, which is normal. We are used to opponents adjusting their tactics against us, so it’s not a concern. We will definitely look for victory in the second leg.”
“Actually, we deserved to score more goals. It’s a pity because we played really well.”
“I know Jürgen Klopp is an excellent coach. I think they played very well; they are a strong team with individually talented players. It was a great match.”
“Playing against Jürgen Klopp and his team is always a pleasure because they try to play attacking football, and it is very entertaining to watch.”
