Dominik Szoboszlai has responded for the first time to the shoulder shrug drama directed at Liverpool fans ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg.
On 13 April 2026, Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool's key midfielder and the club ranked fifth in the English Premier League, spoke at the press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 quarterfinal second leg at home against Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 leaders from France, on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Liverpool aims to overturn the deficit and reach the semifinals, chasing their last hope to lift the UCL trophy this season after losing 0-2 away to PSG in the first leg last week.
Szoboszlai expressed confidence that Liverpool can come back against PSG, saying, "I fully believe we can turn the situation around because I know what we are capable of and the kind of players we have."
"I know the mental state we have because we have shown it many times before. That is what we need for tomorrow."
The Hungarian national team captain also addressed the drama over his shoulder shrug reaction to Liverpool fans after being jeered during the FA Cup quarterfinal, where the team performed disappointingly and lost 0-4, saying, "Maybe it was a misunderstanding between me and the fans."
"I did not intend to act negatively. Of course, I know how much the fans mean to this club and how much this club means to the fans. As a player, we do everything for them just as much as we do for ourselves."
"If it was a misunderstanding, I apologize. But they can also feel that I do not feel better than them. I feel exactly like them. To be clear, I am with them, we are with them, and I hope they will be with us too."
Dominik Szoboszlai also vowed to Liverpool fans about what to expect in the game against PSG: "We will give our all and perform our best from start to finish of the 90 minutes or even longer. I am ready to die on the pitch tomorrow. I want it badly. We have worked hard for it all along. In one game, anything can happen at Anfield."
