Barcelona Wins Away with 10 Men Against Atletico Madrid but Exits UCL 2025-26 Quarterfinals

Barcelona, reduced to 10 men, won away against Atletico Madrid but were eliminated from the 2025-26 UCL quarterfinals.

On 15 Apr 2026 GMT+7, in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg, Atletico Madrid, ranked fourth in Spain's La Liga, hosted league co-leader Barcelona. In the first leg, the home side had won 2-0 away.

In the first half, Barcelona quickly took the lead at the 4th minute through Lamine Yamal, who fired a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the corner. The two-leg aggregate score narrowed to 1-2.

At the 24th minute, Barcelona extended their lead to 2-0. Dani Olmo threaded a pass to Ferran Torres, who broke into the box and shot past Juan Musso, the ball hitting the net decisively. The aggregate score was then level at 2-2.

However, at the 31st minute, Atletico Madrid pulled one back to 1-2. Ademola Lookman received the ball from Marcos Llorente and scored, putting Atletico ahead again on aggregate at 3-2.

In the second half, at the 55th minute, Barcelona thought they had scored again. Gavi's shot was blocked but fell to Ferran Torres, who volleyed into the net. The goal was disallowed due to Ferran Torres being offside.

At the 79th minute, Barcelona were down to 10 men after Eric Garcia was shown a red card following a VAR review and was sent off the pitch.

The match ended with Barcelona winning 3-2 away, but Atletico Madrid advanced 3-2 on aggregate to the semifinals, where they will face the winner between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon. Barcelona's journey ended here.
