Declan Rice, Arsenal midfielder, delivered a striking statement after beating Atletico Madrid to reach the UEFA Champions League final.
Declan Rice, England midfielder for the "Gunners" Arsenal, said he immediately knew his team would defeat "Los Rojiblancos" Atletico Madrid once they took the 1-0 lead. They eventually won by that score in the UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg, with Arsenal advancing 2-1 on aggregate to reach the final for the first time in 20 years.
Rice said, "Once we went ahead 1-0, I knew we were going to win. I felt that something special was building up."
"After the game, it was chaotic (in the dressing room). I think you shouldn't underestimate what we've achieved so far in this competition. I believe we deserve to celebrate this moment in the most prestigious club football tournament. We're just trying to soak it all in."
"To be honest, it all felt blurry because you look at the clock and think there’s still a long way to go, and you have to stay composed because you know what’s important. But I felt we might have scored one or two more goals. Still, winning this match and reaching the final is truly special."
"From the moment our bus was driving in, it suddenly stopped, and we wondered what was happening because normally we drive straight in. Then we saw fireworks, fans, and the excitement on every player’s face looking out the window. It was incredible."
"I've never seen the Emirates Stadium like this before. Thank you so much to all the fans because we really needed that support. When we stepped onto the pitch, you could feel the energy from everyone. No matter how tired you are, it gives you the strength to keep going, and I think they played a huge role in our victory tonight."
"The current generation of Arsenal fans, I know those who have been with the team through thick and thin, both good and bad times, but I’m confident this is the best moment for them. So I’m glad we did it for the club, for this group of players, and the manager because everyone deserves it. I’m truly very happy."
Speaking about the chance to win the title, he said, "It’s crazy to say that, but let’s go!!! I’m ready. Let’s see what happens. Budapest, I want all Arsenal fans to come out, 200,000 strong. Let’s try to make it happen because we need all the support and energy, and let’s make it truly special."
