Bayern Munich Coach Criticizes Culprit Behind UEFA Champions League Exit

Vincent Kompany, coach of Bayern Munich, criticized the cause that led the Bavarians to be eliminated in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

Vincent Kompany, coach of the "Bavarians" Bayern Munich, admitted dissatisfaction with the performance of referee João Pinheiro in this match, pointing out that key moments negatively affected his team after a 1-1 home draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League second leg semi-final. Over two legs, Bayern lost 5-6 and were eliminated, much to their disappointment.

The match featured controversial moments, including Nuno Mendes of PSG committing a handball but not receiving a second yellow card, and another incident where it appeared João Neves handled the ball, but the referee did not award Bayern a penalty.

Kompany said, “At times we played better, and at other times they did. We were on the same level. The players' quality would decide a game like this, but the refereeing is also important. Nothing went the way we wanted.”

“If you look at the questionable moments, they always seemed to go against us. I saw a red card and a penalty tonight, but the referee didn’t award them. I know the rules and that the ball came off their own player, but anyway…”

However, in the interview, Kompany did not forget to congratulate PSG on reaching the final and praised the quality of the opponents.

“That does not diminish PSG’s quality. They have been one of the best teams in Europe over the past three years. We were unlucky because we gave our all. Every time we face them, we feel like we almost win.”
