Fenerbahçe's coach revealed the reasons behind their win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
Dirk Kuyt, Fenerbahçe's coach and former Liverpool forward, praised his team's performance after they collectively secured a 3-2 home victory over Liverpool in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League group stage last night, despite trailing twice.
Goals from Mason Greenwood, Archie Brown, and Vedat Muriqi helped the Turkish team claim their first Champions League win of the season and their first victory in four matches, which Kuyt compared to Liverpool's famous victory over AC Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final.
Kuyt said, "It was a very special night. I think not only for me, but for everyone who loves Fenerbahçe."
"We told each other to play together, be united, and keep believing in ourselves—lessons I learned from a club that means a lot to me, which is Liverpool, the club we played against tonight."
"So, I am very happy with all the players. I am very happy with everyone involved who made this miracle happen tonight."
