Amnat Ruenreung, former world boxing champion, was taken to the hospital late on Friday night.
On 27 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the radio center of the Sawang Prateep rescue unit in Chonburi province received an emergency call. Upon arrival, they found the patient was Amnat Ruenreung, former IBF world flyweight (112-pound) champion and former Thai national amateur boxer.
Amnat was experiencing chills, fever, and had a wound on his knee. He had a high fever and was convulsing at his home in Si Racha district. Initial first aid was given and he was immediately taken to Somdej Boromraja Thewee Hospital in Si Racha.
When asked, Amnat said he had been bitten by a dog two days earlier but did not tell anyone because he feared his family would worry. He stayed at home to rest but then developed chills and a fever.
Later that night, he began having convulsions, prompting his relatives to urgently call rescue authorities for help, as leaving it untreated could have been life-threatening.
Previously, Amnat had issues with alcohol addiction, drinking to intoxication multiple times, leading locals to report him to police who detained him four times. He has since sought a chance to improve and is now working as a Muay Thai boxing instructor teaching youth, which is his expertise.
