Sirimongkol Singhwangcha pointed out that the trainer is only one part, but if the boxer does not accept it, it means nothing.
On 13 May 2026, Takeru Segawa became widely discussed after winning by TKO against Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the 5th round, capturing the interim flyweight kickboxing world championship at ONE SAMURAI 1 on 29 April.
One point of interest was that Sirimongkol Singhwangcha, a former Thai world boxing champion and Thailand's 23rd world champion, served as Takeru Segawa's trainer for about one week.
Sirimongkol told Thairath Sport, "After the win, he came to thank me. He posted on Instagram thanking the Thai world champion. It was a victorious ending; it looked the best."
When asked about some fight fans saying Thai trainers are not as good as foreigners, Sirimongkol replied, "From my experience as a boxer, trainers play a part, but the real importance lies with the boxer. No matter how good the trainer is, if you don't accept it, it means nothing."
"For example, I once had a foreign trainer. I understood what he taught, then continued training with my father. We adapted some things, which helped me improve. There's no need to focus on foreign trainers; as long as we apply and train, Thai trainers are not inferior. It comes down to discipline."
