The convincing reason behind "Tawanchai" opening up after relinquishing the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship.
On 21 July 2026, Tawanchai PK.Saenchai spoke out for the first time after deciding to relinquish the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship (145-155 lbs) to allow the competition to progress appropriately.
Tawanchai’s relinquishment paved the way for Nico Carrillo, the interim champion from Scotland, to be officially recognized as the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion.
Since suffering a broken shinbone injury at ONE Lumpinee 137 in December 2025, Tawanchai, who had to take a long break and was unable to defend his title, faced intense scrutiny from fans about his fighting future. Ultimately, for the peace of mind of all parties, the beloved Thai fighter chose to give up the belt he had held since September 2022 to allow the featherweight division to move forward.
Most recently, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 21 July, Tawanchai PK.Saenchai opened the PK.Saenchai Muay Thai Gym, his home base in the Rama 3 area, where he personally addressed this topic. The fighter known as “Left Star” confirmed that relinquishing the belt was the best solution for everyone involved.
Tawanchai said, "Since becoming champion, I've been very happy. This belt was earned through hard work and overcoming many challenges. Everyone dreams of holding a championship for a long time, and I was one of them."
