“Khaosai,” a former world boxing champion, is confident that “Nabil” will easily pass the national selection but must prepare well for international qualifiers to compete in the 2028 Olympics.
On 18 Aug 2026 GMT+7, ONE Championship, together with the Boxing Association of Thailand and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, held a press conference for Nabil Anan, former Muay Thai bantamweight world champion, who will compete in amateur boxing qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Khaosai Galaxy, former Thai world amateur boxing champion, shared his thoughts, saying this is positive for the amateur boxing scene, but Nabil must train at his best.
“Nabil is currently gaining momentum. This is good for Thailand. He is very skilled in Muay Thai, but weight is critical. If he competes at 70 kilograms, that’s fine, but dropping to 65 kilograms is concerning because amateur boxing requires weigh-ins in the morning and fights in the evening. It depends on the training camp. I think he can manage, but we have to see how he performs against foreigners since they have a solid amateur background. Training is important to control timing.”
“For national selection in Thailand, Nabil is comfortable. But competing internationally is different because foreign boxers have extensive basic skills and have fought hundreds of fights before Olympic qualifiers. I want him to focus on training hard, but ultimately, can he endure the intense training? Amateur boxing camps only provide allowances, unlike fighting in ONE.”
“Somrak also made a wise decision to bring Nabil in, but I have yet to see Nabil Anan’s training and camp regimen.”
“If Nabil doesn’t succeed in amateur boxing, he could still turn professional and possibly become a world champion; he has options.”
