Nabil Anan is preparing to meet the Cuban-born coach of Thailand's national amateur boxing team after accepting to enter the selection process for the 2028 Olympics.
On 26 Aug 2026 GMT+7, after Nabil Anan, former Muay Thai world bantamweight champion of ONE Championship, agreed to enter the selection process to become part of Thailand's national amateur boxing team with hopes to compete at the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
Recently, Somrak Kamsing, former Thai national amateur boxer and 1996 Olympic gold medalist, confirmed that Nabil is preparing to meet the Cuban-born coach of Thailand's national amateur boxing team at the new training center of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand within the Sports Authority of Thailand.
Nabil Anan is expected to compete in the 70-kilogram weight class to represent Thailand in the Olympic quota selection process. Discussions on how to balance his training camp schedule with professional Muay Thai bouts in ONE Championship are still pending on how the time will be organized.
Thailand's national amateur boxing team last won an Olympic medal in 2012 by Kaew Pongprayoon in the light flyweight division (49 kilograms), while the last gold medal was earned by Somjit Jongjohor in the flyweight division (51 kilograms) at the 2008 Olympics.
