The president of the Thai Amateur Boxing Association spoke candidly right after Nabil took the spotlight in amateur boxing, preparing for national team selection with hopes to compete in the 2028 Olympics.
On 28 Aug 2026 GMT+7, after Nabil Anan, former Muay Thai world bantamweight champion of ONE Championship, agreed to enter the selection process for Thailand's amateur boxing national team, aiming to compete in the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
Recently, Nabil visited the new amateur boxing training center of the Thai Amateur Boxing Association at the Sports Authority of Thailand in Hua Mak, where he met the national amateur boxing coaches and demonstrated his skills by hitting the target pads in front of the media.
Pichai Chunwachir, president of the Thai Amateur Boxing Association, stated, “Since Nabil joined to help the nation, we have new hope. Today, Nabil toured the facility and spoke with the coaches. From our discussion, Nabil will continue competing in Muay Thai while also participating in various amateur boxing events to accumulate points for the 2028 Olympics. Going forward, both ONE Championship and the Amateur Boxing Association will coordinate their schedules and discuss details further.”
“Once accepted into the national team, he is officially a national athlete. But to compete in the 2028 Olympics, ranking points are required. We must arrange tournament schedules and discuss which events to enter and how to accumulate points. We understand the process, and Nabil is aware too. We will see who is best in the 70-kilogram division in Thailand to represent the national team. There will be no issues whether the boxer is experienced or new; anyone skilled is welcome to try out.”
