Worapot Petchkhum, Olympic silver medal hero, is confident that Nabil Anan will win a medal for Thailand's national amateur boxing team at the 2028 Olympics.
On 8 September 2026, Somrak Khamsing, former Thai national amateur boxing gold medalist and current advisor to the Boxing Association of Thailand, spoke with Worapot Petchkhum, former Thai national amateur boxer and Olympic silver medalist, about Nabil Anan, former Muay Thai world champion, who is ready to compete for Thailand in the 70-kilogram category, with selection trials to be held again.
Worapot is confident that Nabil, competing in the 70-kilogram division, will definitely win a medal. He has the advantage in reach but needs to adjust his timing to amateur boxing, which will take 5-6 months.
“I think we should give Nabil Anan the opportunity to train with the Thai national team and allow him 5-6 months to adapt and develop discipline. At 70 kilograms, Nabil has a big reach advantage but needs to adjust his footwork. Take, for example, Wicharn Polrit, who won a bronze medal at the Thailand Championship, then adapted over a year and went to the Olympics to win gold.”
“Nabil is already strong. I believe he will win a medal, but he needs 5-6 months to adjust his fighting style. We shouldn’t close the door on him. At 70 kilograms, who else is there in Thailand? It’s hard to find and select fighters in this weight class. When I face a tall boxer, I get worried myself.”
