Anthony Joshua, former world boxing champion, miraculously survived because he switched seats in the car before a serious accident occurred.
On 3 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Anthony Joshua, a British boxer of Nigerian descent and former heavyweight world champion, was involved in a car accident in Nigeria on Monday, 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7, resulting in minor injuries to him while two people died.
The car Joshua was in collided with another vehicle on the Lagos–Ibadan highway in the town of Makun, located north of Lagos, Nigeria's economic capital.
A police statement said Joshua was seated in the back seat of the car, which led to his minor injuries, and he is currently under medical care. Meanwhile, two people in the same vehicle as Joshua died.
However, recent reports revealed that just minutes before the severe collision, the driver requested Joshua to move to the back seat to have a better view of the side window. Despite this, two of Joshua's friends did not survive.
Regarding the legal case, the driver denies all accusations and will continue to face the matter in court.
