It is a tragic event as Jener Andres Gomez, a Colombian boxer, lost a professional fight before being found dead.
On 14 May 2026, a heartbreaking incident shook the global boxing community when 28-year-old Colombian boxer Jener Andres Gomez was found dead, his arms and legs severed, floating in the Magdalena River near the outskirts of Barranquilla, Colombia, on Monday afternoon, 11 May 2026. Fishermen discovered the body and alerted the police.
The body was found incomplete, with the head and some limbs missing. Authorities continue searching the area for the remaining parts.
The next day, Tuesday 12 May, Jener's mother was able to identify her son by his distinctive tattoos: a snake on his torso, a dragon head on his shoulder, his younger brother's name Christian on his neck, and a heart on his chest.
Just one day earlier, Jener had competed in his first professional fight for the WBA Future Champions Colombia title in Barranquilla, headlining the event. He lost by unanimous decision to Laider Galvis, despite previously holding a record of six wins, including five knockouts.
After the match, Jener spent time with his mother and daughter, and was last seen leaving his residence in Barranquilla on Sunday afternoon. His phone was switched off that night, prompting his family to worry and report him missing.
Jener’s coach told local media he was unaware of any threats or personal issues before the incident. Colombian authorities are currently conducting an official investigation into the case.
