Age is just a number - Sisaket Nakornluang Promotion's chance to compete for the title again at age 39 on 28 August.
Sisaket Nakornluang Promotion is a Thai professional boxer who has brought the most smiles to Thai boxing fans by winning the WBC 115-pound world championship twice.
On 3 May 2013, Sisaket defeated Yuta Sato, a top Japanese fighter, to claim his first WBC 115-pound world title. He then went on to win eight consecutive fights, including defending his title against Japanese boxer Hirofumi Mukai with a TKO in the 8th round.
At that time, Sisaket's name became famous worldwide, earning him a chance to defend his world title again in Mexico, where he lost the championship to Carlos Cuadras (now retired).
Sisaket never gave up. He worked hard aiming to reclaim the WBC world title for a second time. "Laem" won 15 consecutive fights, earning a shot to fight again for the same world title he once held, this time against Roman Gonzalez, considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world at that time, undefeated until then.
Ultimately, Sisaket won a split decision over Roman on 19 March 2017 at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, capturing the WBC super flyweight 115-pound world title again. His name was boldly announced across the U.S. as one of the best boxers in the world at that time.
Six months later, Sisaket had a rematch with Roman, knocking him down and causing Roman's wife to cry. Laem won by knockout in the 4th round, relieving fans' doubts from their first fight.
At that time, "Laem" was in prime form. In his next fight, he won a split decision over Juan Francisco Estrada, defending his world title again. He then had a tune-up fight, knocking out Yu Gil Bae in the first round, and later defended his title with a unanimous decision over Mexican challenger Iran Diaz at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani.
On 26 April 2019, Sisaket lost a unanimous decision to Juan Francisco Estrada, regrettably losing his world title in the U.S. He then took a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic before returning for tune-up fights, preparing to challenge for the world title again.
Sisaket earned a chance to fight Carlos Cuadras for the world title again in early 2022, but he suffered from nephritis and severe abdominal pain, forcing him to withdraw. American boxer Jesse Rodriguez stepped in, winning the title. When Sisaket recovered, he challenged Rodriguez again in June that year but was stopped by TKO in the 8th round.
Sisaket was away from the ring for a while before returning for four tune-up fights in 2023 and three in 2024. Afterwards, he fought Kaito Yamazaki in Japan but lost by unanimous decision in 2025.
Recently, there has been good news for "Laem" at age 39: he is set to return to boxing and compete for the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) bantamweight title against Sonny Boy Jaro, a seasoned former WBC flyweight world champion from the Philippines, who once defeated another top Thai boxer, Pongsaklek Kaiyanghadaogym, on 28 August.
This is another test for Sisaket. While some fans think he may be too old, it is strongly believed that Laem's fighting spirit remains strong and that he wants to bring smiles to Thai boxing fans as he once did.
