Mr.Fight Confused Why People Criticize Nabil Over Favoritism Claim—Insists Olympic Spot Must Be Earned Through Qualification

Mr.Fight is puzzled why people keep criticizing Nabil over favoritism claims—he stresses that qualifying for the Olympics must be earned and is not simply granted.

On 13 August 2026, regarding Nabil Anan, a Thai boxer from ONE and former bantamweight world champion, who has accepted to try out for Thailand's national amateur boxing team for the 2028 Olympics, with an official press conference scheduled for Friday, 14 August.

Mr.Fight, the well-known promoter of Street Fight boxing events, shared his thoughts on the news about Nabil.

"Nabil doesn’t even need to compete in amateur boxing. You can see the morale is very high among Thai people. Going to the Olympics isn’t about signing a contract and just going; everyone knows that—even my kid knows. In the end, he has to go through the matches and qualifiers to make the team. Personally, I think he’s run out of options because the current system hasn’t produced any medals for over ten years. If the system were strong, there would be medals to show. That’s why they want to try something new. Ultimately, he still has to be trained and fight in qualifiers. It’s also about generating interest again in amateur boxing, which I believe will attract a big audience."

"But look at the response from the seniors and regulars in the boxing community—there’s no joy or useful advice, only criticism. I’ve heard suggestions like he should fight for France or Algeria instead of Thailand. No wonder Alif chose to go to Malaysia rather than Thailand."
