Wichian Polrit views positively Nabil's readiness to join the Thai national amateur boxing team after Thailand's 18-year absence from Olympic boxing medals.
On 8 September 2026, Somrak Khamsing, former Thai national amateur boxing hero and Olympic gold medalist, now advisor to the Thailand Boxing Association, spoke with Wichian Polrit, another Olympic gold medal hero.
Wichian Polrit commented on Nabil Anan's acceptance to try out for the Thai national amateur boxing team, aiming for the 2028 Olympics in the 70-kilogram category.
"I think it's a good thing that Nabil is willing to help the Thai national team because the men's team has been without an Olympic medal for a long time. He has two years to train. I just hope he trains seriously and uses a lot of amateur boxing techniques," he said.
Wichian spent 1 year and 5 months training in amateur boxing, starting with his first tournament at the 1999 Thailand Amateur Boxing Championships. Although he did not win a medal there, coaches saw potential and invited him to the training camp. He then competed in the 1999 SEA Games, winning gold, before capturing Olympic gold in 2000. It remains to be seen if Nabil Anan, with two years of preparation, can win gold at the 2028 Olympics.
