(With Clip) Dangerous! Thai Boxer Elbows Opponents Back of the Neck — Was It a Foul?

A Thai boxer elbowed his opponent on the back of the neck, raising online concerns about the danger despite no foul being called.

On 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the Thai boxing scene made headlines when Pornsumet Chiangmai JR. Muay Thai (blue corner) won by knockout against Oshi Srisubati Muay Thai (red corner) in round 2 at the Kiattisak Petch True4U Super Fight held on Saturday, 10 Jan 2026 GMT+7.

However, the fight drew attention because the knockout came from an elbow strike to the back of the neck, prompting many to view it as dangerous and question whether it was ultimately a foul.

Fans commented in various ways, with some seeing it as against the rules, while others believed it was allowed.

Dr. Phitsri Khumanuwong, known as Dr. Mom, owner of the Dr.Mom TikTok page, explained that while movies show a strike to the back of the neck causing instant unconsciousness, in reality it is more complex. The area controls vision, and a strong hit, kick, or impact to the head could be fatal.

Meanwhile, Ajarn Chalerm Prayadsap, chairman of the professional Muay Thai judging standards committee, confirmed that in Muay Thai, elbow strikes to the back of the neck or any part are permitted and not against the rules.
