Consequences Enforced! Former Thai Boxer Sued for 5 Million Baht After Imprisonment

The fight-fixing case is far from over! Win Singhacha is moving forward with a civil lawsuit demanding 5 million baht, hoping to set a standard in the sport.

On 7 April 2026, following the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court ruling on 11 September 2025, Winai Thepthani, a former famous boxer and ex-trainer at Singhacha camp, was found guilty under the 1999 Boxing Sport Act Sections 48 and 59. He was sentenced to two years in prison, reduced by half to one year without probation, for hiring boxers to fix fights—an act deemed unacceptable in the boxing community.

Chawinwut Kongthornin, also known as Win Singhacha, head of Singhacha camp and the victim, has filed an additional civil suit against Winai Thepthani, demanding damages of 5,000,000 baht due to harm caused to the camp's reputation, credibility, and the overall image of Thai boxing.

This civil case aims to establish a precedent in sports by highlighting that fight-fixing is not only a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment but also incurs significant civil liabilities, potentially high in value and with long-term effects.

"This is not a personal conflict but a matter of principle and justice. I want this to serve as an example that corrupting fairness in sports must face full legal consequences, both criminal and civil," Win Singhacha said.

He also stated that if awarded compensation as claimed, the funds will be used to benefit society and the Thai boxing community, particularly to support activities that promote transparency and elevate the sport's standards over the long term.

This case is being closely watched as it may become a landmark in enhancing ethics and legal rigor in Thai boxing to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
