Big Pom Sends Miguel Back to Spain After Farewell to Thailand National Futsal Team Coach

"Big Pom" traveled to send Miguel back to Spain, thanking him for his two years back as coach of Thailand's futsal team, during which he led the team to qualify once again for the Futsal World Cup.

"Big Pom" Adisak Benjasiriwan, Deputy Chairman of the Football Association of Thailand for Futsal and Beach Soccer, traveled to see off Miguel Rodrigo, former head coach of Thailand's national futsal team, in the early hours of Sunday, 21 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at Suvarnabhumi Airport before his departure to Spain.

Rodrigo officially announced his resignation as head coach of Thailand's national futsal team after the final men's futsal match at the 33rd SEA Games, stating that the game was his "final match" as a professional futsal coach. He confirmed he would no longer accept professional coaching positions, whether at club or national team level.

"Big Pom" expressed gratitude for the Spanish coach's work over the past two years, emphasizing that his return came at a time when the Thai national team urgently needed a world-class coach.

"On behalf of the Football Association of Thailand, I sincerely thank Miguel Rodrigo for returning to take the role again two years ago, even after having previously announced his retirement. This was a time when the Thai national team urgently needed a world-class coach, and he sacrificed personal matters and his family in Spain to help the team. I am very grateful to him."

"He also achieved outstanding results, leading Thailand to their 7th Futsal World Cup qualification and to become Asian runners-up last year. Now it is time for him to return home to his family. Thank you for performing your duties with honor during these two years."

Miguel Rodrigo's key achievements upon returning as Thailand's futsal coach included preparing the team for the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup (hosted in Thailand), leading the team to their 7th Futsal World Cup, securing the 2024 Asian runner-up title, and advancing to the knockout stage of the 2024 Futsal World Cup, fulfilling set goals.
