Dr. Suwanna Reveals Her Role in the Winter Olympic Games Milano–Cortina 2026

Dr. Suwanna Silpa-archa revealed her role in the Winter Olympic Games Milano–Cortina 2026 and her missions related to equality, safety, and sustainability in sports.

Bangkok — Dr. Suwanna Silpa-archa, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and an International Skating Union (ISU) Council Member, disclosed her significant roles and ongoing duties at both international and national levels, particularly her collaboration with the organizing committee of the Winter Olympic Games Milano–Cortina 2026 in the Short Track Speed Skating event, participating from the very start of this Winter Olympics.

In her capacity as an ISU Council Member, Dr. Suwanna has worked on creating the Short Track Speed Skating Handbook, designing competition venues to meet international safety standards, and developing technical policies and management strategies alongside an international team of experts. This marks a crucial moment for Thailand’s involvement in setting standards for Winter Olympic competitions.

“Serving in this role as a Thai representative on the international stage is a vital mission to enhance and elevate standards, supporting sustainable progress in the global sports community,” Dr. Suwanna said.

Key Role in Thailand: Driving Policies on Gender Equity, Safety, and Sustainability in Sports

At the national level, Dr. Suwanna serves as Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and chairs commissions with policy roles in three main areas:

1. Gender Equity in Sports and Safeguarding Commission

Dr. Suwanna promotes policies aligned with the IOC and other international organizations to achieve gender balance in sports—from athletes and coaches to administrators. She emphasizes expanding opportunities and space for women while reducing structural barriers that have historically limited their roles in sports. Creating a safe environment for athletes of all genders and ages, especially children and youth, is a primary mission. She has driven systems to prevent all forms of abuse, encouraged adherence to Safe Sport standards, and trained relevant personnel.

2. Sustainability in Sports Commission

“Sustainable sports means using sports as a tool for responsible development environmentally, socially, and economically. It aims for events, infrastructure, management, and outcomes to continue long-term without burdening the planet or future generations.”

Promoting Opportunities for Underprivileged Children and Youth: “Sports Can Truly Change Lives”

Dr. Suwanna places great importance on creating opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth through the following approaches:

● Encouraging children and youth to spend their time productively through sports activities

● Providing athletes with chances to develop themselves, laying the foundation for better lives and sustainable futures

● Promoting access for all children, regardless of background, to discover their potential through sports

Standing Firm as a Thai Female Leader on the Global Stage

“My work with the 2026 Winter Olympics and policy roles at the National Olympic Committee of Thailand clearly demonstrate the potential of Thai women to become global leaders. I am committed to bringing international experience back to advance Thailand’s sports system in standards, safety, and management to help build a sustainable and steadily growing sports future.”
