The "Jet Ski World Cup 2025" will decide its champion from Dec 17-21 at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, with an expected massive economic turnover exceeding 680 million baht.

Detnarong Sutthichanbancha, President of the Jet Ski Sports Association of Thailand, Dr. Chalanda Chobjit, Director of Professional Sports Management and Evaluation at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Dr. Suwanna Silpa-acha, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, Mr. Taweedet Thong-on, Director of Activities at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Mr. Wirot Chongkolvanichsuk, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, jointly held a press conference about the “Thai Airways Jet Ski World Cup” at the Chalerm Phrakiat 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary Building, SAT Huamark, on 2 December.
Pol. Gen. Detnarong revealed that Deputy Prime Minister Capt. Thammanat Prompao and Minister of Tourism and Sports Atthakorn Sirilak emphasized making this project a model Thai sports tournament. It aims to expand the professional sports pyramid’s peak as an example of elevating Thailand’s national sports to the top of the sports ecosystem as a successful global professional sports organization, which benefits Thailand greatly. This builds upon grassroots and elite sports long supported by the government. The year’s final major competition will be held at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, from Dec 17-21, generating economic turnover over 680 million baht. Confidence is high that WGP#1 will expand into a grand global sports festival, hosting 10-20 events worldwide under Thailand’s flag, and develop content reaching over 400 million global viewers. This is a new milestone and a major success for Thai sports.
Dr. Suwanna stated that although the Olympic policy focuses on amateur sports, they recognize the opportunity presented by the Thai Jet Ski tournament WGP#1, which excellently opens perspectives for creating Thai professional sports tournaments on the global market. This is an area deserving support, especially for professional sports tournaments, which remain relatively open for creating opportunities for Eastern Hemisphere sports to compete equally with Western Hemisphere sports brands. This is highly beneficial.
Mr. Taweedet noted that last year’s tournament attracted 30 percent Thai spectators and 70 percent foreigners from 61 countries worldwide, clearly showing that the Jet Ski World Cup is a high-potential sports tourism product for international tourists. Next year, the point-scoring venues for the championship will expand from 5 to 8 locations across 5 continents, making this one of the few sports where Thailand has truly established a global role.
Ms. Ornman said that WGP#1 exemplifies the development of sports business models using comprehensive intellectual property (IP) strategy. Elevating Thai sports entrepreneurs to the global level requires a strong understanding of IP, as it is the core revenue source for this business. The Department of Intellectual Property sees this as a great opportunity to co-host the “Thai GP-IP Global Ascent” event under the theme “Thai Motorsports to the World through Intellectual Property.” This will raise awareness of IP strategy in sports, featuring interesting exhibits at the WGP#1 World Cup from Dec 17-21. She added that while IP might seem remote, for Thais aspiring to grow in the global market like WGP#1, IP strategy is a crucial business tool that must be carefully planned.
