
Cycling prepares officials for the first gold medal contest in the men's downhill event.
Cycling held a meeting to prepare officials across all disciplines before their duties at the 33rd SEA Games. "Sergeant Major Muek" revealed that the first gold medal in cycling will be contested in the men's downhill event, featuring four-time Asian champion Methasit Boonsane and rising star Chitipat Asa competing on the morning of 10 December 2025 at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Chonburi Province. He called on Thai people to support and cheer the Thai cyclists to win gold as a New Year's gift to all Thais.
"Sergeant Major Muek," General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, chaired the meeting to prepare cycling officials for the 33rd SEA Games cycling competitions from 9-21 December. Thirty officials attended to receive policies and guidelines for their duties across mountain biking, BMX, road, and track disciplines on 4 December 2025 at the FBT Outlet building, Kamol Sports Park, Suwinthawong Road, Nong Chok District, Bangkok.
General Decha explained that organizing cycling competitions requires readiness in many aspects, with officials being a crucial component. The Cycling Association of Thailand therefore held a meeting to prepare officials for their roles at the 33rd SEA Games, assigning duties and positions as specified by the international chief official. They also distributed ID cards and uniforms provided by the SEA Games organizing committee according to each person's entitlement. Additionally, in his role appointed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as Technical Delegate for cycling competitions, he inspected the BMX track at Kamol Sports Park again, confirming everything was in good order.
General Decha said the cycling competitions at the 33rd SEA Games will begin with the mountain bike downhill event at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Chonburi, on 10 December at 9:00 a.m. The first gold medal will be contested in the men's downhill by "Best," Asst. Sgt. Methasit Boonsane, four-time Asian champion, alongside "Focus," Mr. Chitipat Asa, a rising cyclist. The women's downhill will follow, featuring "Petch," Corporal Wipawi Dechabales, and "Chompoo," Ms. Kanokrat Ritthidech, with strong competitors from Indonesia in both men's and women's events. On 11 December at 10:30 a.m., the cross-country eliminator race will take place, with "Tomorn," Staff Sergeant Poonsiri Sirimongkol, and "Owen," Corporal Watcharakorn Onthuri, competing.
Sergeant Major Muek added that the men's downhill event will be held concurrently with the taekwondo poomsae competition, so it is unclear which will award the first gold medal at the SEA Games, depending on the number of competitors. Cycling will contest 17 gold medals in total. Mountain biking events will be held from 10-11 December at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, BMX from 12-13 December at Kamol Sports Park, Suwinthawong Road, Nong Chok District, Bangkok.
Road cycling competitions will take place from 14-17 December. On 14 December, the race will start at King Naresuan Shrine in Prachinburi Province and finish at Khao Yai National Park, including a criterium race at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. On 15 December, the race will again start at King Naresuan Shrine and finish at Khao Yai National Park. On 16 December, the men's road race will start from Kamol Sports Park and finish at Phat Trom Jai, and on 17 December, the women's road race will start from Kamol Sports Park and finish at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. Track cycling will be held from 18-19 December at Huamark Velodrome.
General Decha called on Thai people to watch and cheer the national cycling team across all disciplines. For the road race events, the Cycling Association of Thailand will distribute Thai flags to fans along the race route to encourage the athletes to win gold medals as a New Year's gift for all Thais and to make Thailand the top gold medal winner in cycling at the SEA Games.
