The Sports Authority of Thailand is preparing to host the Cambodian athletes competing at the SEA Games in Thailand as originally planned, despite the border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
On 18 December 2025, following ongoing clashes since the previous day (7 Dec 2025) when Cambodian troops attacked areas in Phu Pha Hlek - Phlan Hin Paed Kon in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, multiple confrontations occurred along various border points on the morning of 8 December 2025.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed that Thailand has prepared for two scenarios: if Cambodian athletes and officials travel as scheduled, Thai authorities will enhance security measures by 2 to 3 times to ensure maximum safety.
However, if the Cambodian athletes and officials decide not to come, the event organizers will have to adjust the SEA Games competition schedule to account for the absence of Cambodian participants.
