Thana Chaiprasit appeals to Thai people to welcome and care for Cambodian athletes at the 2025 SEA Games, separating the issue from politics.
On 8 Dec 2025 GMT+7, following a clash where Cambodia opened fire on Thai soldiers on 7 Dec at 14:16, Cambodian forces began shooting at Thai troops in the Phu Pha Hlek – Phlan Hin Paed Kon area. So far, two Thai soldiers have died and at least four have been injured.
Thana Chaiprasit, head of the Thai athletes, expressed his hope that Thai sports fans would help care for the athletes and urged separating politics from sports.
“Regarding the reception and care of the Cambodian athletes, we have arranged for them to stay in the same hotel with full security. Whenever they go to compete, police escort their transportation, and after the competition, police vehicles escort them back to the hotel.”
“There was a joint meeting, and they have no issues. I urge everyone to take care of the Cambodian athletes because they come to compete in sports. We must keep politics aside and use sports media to build relations with Cambodia. They are also worried about whether they will be welcomed by Thai people. I want to ask Thai brothers and sisters to look after them until the competition concludes smoothly.”
