
Seven-time consecutive champions, the "Thai women's badminton team," won the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games by coming from behind to defeat Indonesia.
On 10 December, the women's badminton team competition at the 33rd SEA Games “Thailand 2025” took place at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Sports Center, Pathum Thani Province. The Thai national team played in the gold medal final against the Indonesian national team.
In the first match, women's singles world number 6, Mew Pornpawee Chochuwong, was upset by Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Wardani, ranked 7th in the world, losing 1-2 in games: 8-21, 21-13, and 16-21. Thailand fell behind 0-1 in matches.
In the second match, the top-ranked women's doubles pair, Fem Supissara Paewsampran and Muna Benyapa Aimsaard, teamed up specially to face Rachel Alessia Rose and Febby Setianingrum from Indonesia in a thrilling and closely contested match, ultimately winning 2-1 in games 21-18, 11-21, and 21-18. Thailand leveled the score 1-1.
In the third match, world number 8 women's singles player May Ratchanok Intanon faced Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, ranked 10th, who had beaten her in the 2024 Olympic quarterfinals. This time, May Ratchanok outplayed her opponent, winning straight sets 21-7 and 21-15 in just 32 minutes, putting Thailand ahead 2-1 in matches.
In the fourth match, the second-ranked women's doubles pair Muk Ornicha Jongsathapornpan and Jane Jureynicha Sudjaiprarat defeated the Indonesian duo Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Melisa Trias Puspitasari 2-0 in games, 21-19 and 21-18.
This allowed the Thai women's badminton team to overturn the score and win 3-1 over Indonesia, securing the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games. This marks their 10th overall championship and their seventh consecutive gold medal in this event at the SEA Games.
