Aiyawat Srivaddhanaprabha expressed great joy as he led the Thai polo team to win a historic gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games.
Following the 2025 SEA Games polo final in the 2-4 goal category at VS Sport Club, Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, brothers Aiyawat and Apichet Srivaddhanaprabha, along with Natthapong Prathumlee and Thanasilp Chuewangkam, led the Thai national polo team to a historic first gold medal by decisively defeating Brunei 7.5-0.
Aiyawat Srivaddhanaprabha, speaking on behalf of the team, told the media he was delighted that the team executed their plan well to win the gold for Thailand, as well as for their late father Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who was the pioneer of this sport in Thailand.
"I must say we prepared and planned extensively, striving to play the game as we intended. We stayed cautious and gave our best. We knew the final was a single decisive match and couldn’t afford mistakes. Fortunately, we succeeded. Everyone was determined to win the gold for Thailand."
"Today, we performed perfectly. You can see that we didn’t concede any goals. Sports always have wins and losses, but this time we succeeded, and I’m very happy."
"Polo might still be new to the SEA Games, but I hope Thai sports fans who watch will see it as a sport somewhat like football, since it involves goal scoring and fast pace. I encourage everyone to cheer for us, hoping we might win another gold medal."
"We also want to do this for our father, who was the one who introduced this sport to Thailand. We really wanted the gold medal, and today we achieved it."
This victory marks a historic milestone for Thai polo, following previous achievements of a bronze medal at the 24th SEA Games and a silver at the 29th SEA Games, culminating now in their first-ever SEA Games gold medal with great distinction.
