World Athletics has officially recognized Biu Puripol's record after his gold medal win at the 2025 SEA Games.
On 12 December 2025 GMT+7, World Athletics officially certified the record of Biu Puripol Boonsorn, the top Thai sprinter, after he won gold in the men's 100 meters at the 2025 SEA Games hosted by Thailand.
Yesterday (11 December 2025 GMT+7) at Suphachalasai Stadium, National Stadium, Biu Puripol Boonsorn broke the 10-second barrier in the men's 100-meter race, recording 9.94 seconds in the qualifying round.
This made "Thep Biu" break the SEA Games men's 100-meter record previously held by Indonesia's Suryo Agung Wibowo, who ran 10.17 seconds in 2009 in Laos, before winning the 2025 SEA Games gold with a time of 10.00 seconds in the final.
Recently, World Athletics officially recognized both the SEA Games record and Biu Puripol Boonsorn's new record at age 19, praising the Thai sprinter for "running under 10 seconds in December."
"Puripol Boonsorn broke his personal best and the Asian U20 record with a time of 9.94 seconds in the 100-meter qualifying round at the SEA Games, making him the fifth-fastest U20 athlete in history."
On the first day of athletics at the 33rd SEA Games, the Thai team performed excellently, winning a total of 7 medals: 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.
