Guaranteed a Medal: May Ratchanok Reveals One Concern After Reaching Semifinals at 2025 SEA Games

Guaranteed a medal: "May Ratchanok" reveals one concern after reaching the badminton semifinals at the 2025 SEA Games.

On 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7, May Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand's national badminton player and world No. 8 in women's singles, spoke after her victory at the 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand, held at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Center.

In the individual badminton event on day 2, May Ratchanok, seeded second, competed in the women's singles quarterfinals against Christel Fuentespina from the Philippines.

May Ratchanok continued her strong performance by winning in straight games 21-12 and 21-10, advancing to the semifinals to face world No. 46 Wong Ching Ling of Malaysia, thereby securing at least a bronze medal at the 2025 SEA Games.

May Ratchanok, aiming for the women's singles gold in what is her final SEA Games, said, "My opponent's style today is still young and fast-paced. I might not be fully used to her speed because I've faced faster shots before. When the pace slowed a bit, I felt like I had to push myself harder."

"Tomorrow, in the round against Malaysia, I have faced her before at the 2025 Kumamoto Masters in Japan. Her skill is quite good, so tomorrow will definitely not be an easy match for me."

"She has also trained at Thongyod Gym, and I feel she has developed a lot with dedication, chasing every shot and trying to score as much as possible. I will try to play at my own pace."

"(Regarding my physical condition after winning the women's team gold) It might have dropped a bit, but mentally and emotionally, I am managing well on the court."

"(My concern) I'm not too worried about controlling my game plan on the court, but I am more concerned about managing the increased expectations. I will try to keep myself under control as best as I can."
