Fang Theeraphong Silachai Delivers Stellar Performance to Win Gold in 60 kg Weightlifting at 2025 SEA Games, Breaks World Record

World-class form remains unstoppable as "Fang" Theeraphong Silachai unleashed power in the clean and jerk, breaking his own record to claim gold in the men's 60 kg category at the 33rd SEA Games.

On 13 December 2025 GMT+7, "Fang" Theeraphong Silachai, Thai national weightlifter and 2024 Olympic silver medalist, triumphed to win gold in the men's 60 kg weightlifting event at the 33rd SEA Games. This was Thailand’s second weightlifting medal following "Arm" Thanyathon Sukcharoen’s silver in the women’s 48 kg category.

The competition took place at the gymnasium of Chonburi Sports School in Chonburi Province on 13 December. The highlight was the men's 60 kg category, where Theeraphong, the Paris Olympic silver medalist, was under intense scrutiny.

In the snatch, "Fang" successfully lifted all three attempts at 126, 129, and 131 kilograms but faced a tight battle with Rico Saputra from Indonesia, who also completed all three lifts, ending with a heavier final attempt of 132 kilograms.

Moving to the clean and jerk, Theeraphong demonstrated world-class strength, successfully lifting 162 and 165 kilograms on his first two attempts, while his Indonesian rival failed his third attempt at 165 kilograms.

Then, in a decisive move, "Fang" called for a 173-kilogram lift and executed it perfectly, breaking the clean and jerk world record previously set at 172 kilograms. With a total weight of 304 kilograms, he claimed the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games.
