
The Thai snooker team defeated Laos 3-1 in the final to win the men's 15-red team championship at the 33rd SEA Games held at Thunderdome, Muang Thong Thani, on 13 December GMT+7.
In the men's team snooker final, Thailand faced Laos. The Thai team consisted of “Korn Nakornpathom” Phasakorn Suwanwat, “Nuk Songkhla” Krisanat Lertsatyatorn, and “Bright Sriracha” Natthanapong Chaikul. Laos fielded Sithtidet Sakbiang, Suriya Meenalawong, and Phonsawan Chapakdee. The team to first win 3 of 5 frames would claim the championship.
The first singles match featured Thailand’s number one player Phasakorn Suwanwat against Sithtidet Sakbiang. Early in the frame, Sithtidet scored 33 points, but Phasakorn responded with a single break of 69 points to overtake and win 69-33, putting Thailand ahead 1-0.
In the second singles, Thailand’s Krisanat Lertsatyatorn played Laos’ Suriya Meenalawong. Although the Laotian player initially led, Krisanat made a long break to win 74-34, extending Thailand's lead to 2-0 frames.
In the doubles match, Thailand paired Phasakorn with Natthanapong Chaikul against Sithtidet Sakbiang and Phonsawan Chapakdee. The Thai pair lost 27-57, allowing Laos to narrow the gap to 1-2 frames.
The next singles match was a decider between Krisanat and Sithtidet. Krisanat dominated, winning 120-0, securing a 3-1 overall victory for Thailand and the gold medal. This marked the third gold for the Thai snooker team at these SEA Games.
Thailand's snooker team still has medal opportunities in women's 6-red singles and 15-red singles, as well as men's 15-red singles and 6-red singles and team events.
